Mr. John Robert Hucks, age 62, husband of Ginger H. Hucks, realizing his work on earth complete, surrendered to his Heavenly Father, surrounded by his loving family, Thursday, June 4, 2020.

Mr. Hucks was born in Union, January 29, 1958, a son of the late Thomas E. and Jewel Gault Hucks. He was a 1976 graduate of Union High School and a graduate of Gardner-Webb College on full scholarship awarded by Roger Milliken. He received a Master’s Degree in Theology and a Master’s Degree in Religious Studies from the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, KY. Mr. Hucks was a retired Southern Baptist minister and owner of A-1 Tree Service in Dahlonega, GA for over 40 years. He was a member of Woodruff Church of Christ.

Mr. Hucks loved to hunt and fish, and sing Karaoke, especially Willie Nelson. People often commented that Robert sounded just like Willie to which he would reply “Willie sounds just like me”.

Surviving in addition to his wife are two daughters, Kristen Gipson and husband MSgt. Wesley Gipson of Ewa Beach, HI and Kathryn Hucks and boyfriend, James Albrets of Dahlonega, GA; twin sons, Kevin Hucks and fiancé Austin Rideout of Suwanee, GA and Kenneth Hucks of Dahlonega, GA; three step-sons, Daniel Gregory and fiancée Kimberly Sain of Spartanburg, David Gregory and wife Katie of Union and Adam Gregory of Spartanburg; a sister, Ava Gail Lawson and husband Dennis of Pauline and a sister-in-law, Patti Gault and his mother-in-law, Hallie Ham both of Union. He is also survived by four grandchildren who affectionately called him "GreenDaddy", Parker Gipson, Madelyn Gipson, Carolina Grace Gregory and Hallie Kate Gregory; special nieces and nephews, Jason Lawson, Aubrey Lawson, Jessica Gault, Will, Alex and Lucas Sexton and his best friend Millie, his Jack Russell terrier. Robert leaves behind many cousins and dear friends. He was predeceased by a brother, Kenneth Hucks and a nephew, Chris Lawson.

The family wishes to express their gratitude to the nurses and staff of Spartanburg Regional Hospice, especially Rachel Dean and Michelle Manus for their care of Mr. Hucks and his family during his illness.

A celebration of life service will be held at 3:00 PM Monday, June 8, 2020, at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Chapel. Visitation will be held from 1:00 until 3:00 PM at the chapel prior to the service. There will also be a celebration of life service held in Dahlonega, GA at a later date.

The family respectfully request that in lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Woodruff Church of Christ, Building Fund, P.O. Box 308, Woodruff, SC 29388.

The family will be at the home, 211 Catherine St., Union, SC.
