๐Ÿฆ‹๐Ÿฆ‹Justine Waddell ๐Ÿฆ‹๐Ÿฆ‹

Long before she recited her firstline as an actress, Justine Waddell was playing roles -- real-life roles.First, she was a South African child, then a Scottish adolescent, and finallyan English teenager after her family planted itself in London. There, Waddelltook root and blossomed as one of Britain's finest young actresses. But shewasn't finished with multiculturalism. During and after her education atCambridge University, she played characters in adaptations of English,Norwegian, French, and Russian authors. Then, in Dracula 2000, based onIrish-born author Bram Stoker's Dracula, she played an Englishman's daughterliving in America who is pursued by a Transylvania vampire. Obviously, theworld has been very much with Waddell, as Wordsworth might observe, and it isno wonder that she studied political science and sociology at Cambridge'sEmmanuel College. There are, however, at least two constants in Waddell's life:one, striking beauty; two, extraordinary acting talent. The latter quality is,of course, the more important. But it doesn't hurt for an actress to have astunning face and a symmetrical body when she is trying out to play Tess inThomas Hardy's Tess of the D'Urbervilles or Estella in Charles Dickens' GreatExpectations. Waddell played both roles, to the delight of audiences andcritics, in TV miniseries.

Waddell was born in Johannesburg 4 November 1975. HerScottish-born father, Gordon Waddell, was a member of Parliament and anemployee of De Beers, the world's largest producer and distributor of diamonds. Her South African-born mother, Cathy Gallagher Waddell, was a fashion designerwho also operated a small shop in Soweto, a ghetto southwest of Johannesburgthat rebelled often against unfair laws. To escape the dangerous social climatein South Africa, the Waddells moved to Kelso, Scotland, near the tranquil RiverTweed, in the mid-'80s. About four years later, they moved to London, whereJustine Waddell attended a school on Baker Street and eventually enrolled inCambridge. Though not a school of drama as such, it did offer courses thatintroduced her to acting. While still a student there, she played Joan of Arcin the Edinburgh Festival's production of Jean Anouilh's drama The Lark. Thencame roles in period costume dramas requiring her to squeeze into corsets andplumb the keen insights she gleaned as a cultural hybrid. Among the roles thatchallenged her were Sasha (opposite Ralph Fiennes) in Chekhov's Ivanov, performed in London and Moscow, and Nina in Ibsen's The Seagull, performed inStratford-upon-Avon. She also played Laura in Wilkie Collins' The Woman inWhite, Countess Nordston in Tolstoy's Anna Karenina, Tess in Hardy's Tess ofthe D'Urbervilles, Julia in Jane Austen's Mansfield Park, Estella in Dickens'Great Expectations, and Molly in Elizabeth Gaskell's Wives and Daughters. Nowat age 49 Justine Waddell has reached a time in her life that movie partsbecome very hard to find. Her last acting part was in 2013. She has now movedinto producing movies.

Personal Note: Ivery much enjoy watching British movies. To me they seem to appeal to an intelligentaudience. Movies made in the USA concentrate on violence and lean hard onspecial effects, very little story line. Call me old fashion but I know a lotof you feel the same way. This subject & movies are dedicated to you.

Glad to see you again!

JUST FYI...before I begin the compliments, please note several of your movies have no sound, either in the previews or Mp4 section; but I'm sure you'll take care of it! (The H264 films are fine, sound wise).

And YES, I am a HUGE British movie fan and have been since I was a little boy in the 50's, along with BBC/Masterpiece Theatre material and related BeeB Radio dramas!

Subject: Enjoyable!

JT, you know I really love the classics, especially 1930-1965, but I must admit that I love the British stuff as well. Your observation that the plots are richer and not as gimmicky and geared to violence and special effects is spot on. I rarely like a new film shown in theaters today.

Your amazing work is going forward at such a nice clip that you may actually cover almost ALL the classic stars. Working on the British stuff might be a great idea for you to extend your work. Iโ€™m sure you could come up with creative pages either by actor or subject or historical time, etc. You thrive at that stuff. These British films and series probably are the natural extensions of our beloved classics.

As to getting scolded for putting added films on pagesโ€ฆo my goodness! Since when is more movies worse than less movies? Apparently some people imagine a democracy while in the kingdom where JT is sovereign! :) it is, though, a pleasant kingdom that I visit often.

"The Fall 2006" is a Classic and must watch movie. Directed by Tarsem Singh an Indian director who has taken storytelling to the next level. [San Francisco Chronicle
Peter Hartlaub author
An achingly beautiful movie and a triumph of location scouting, with more cosmopolitan spectacle than the past three Indiana Jones and James Bond movies combined.] The way he interweaves the story and music reminds me of Sergio Leone & boyhood friend Ennio Morricone. GENIUS!

Thanks for pointing out the problems of RAY 2004 & East of Eden 1981 Miniseries. I have fixed both. If it wasn't for people like you these problems would never get fixed. Speaking of MINISERIES' I have added NETFLIX 's Wednesday miniseries to the Holiday site. You will find it at the end of the videos. I see it as a Halloween type of series. I am thinking of adding some British videos to this site, but I keep catching hell from people that the actor did not appear in the video. So I guess I will just attach ๐“‘๐“ธ๐“ท๐“พ๐“ผ to the end to keep them quiet.....hahaha ๐Ÿช„

Thank you! Yes, this archive is quite a treat! I am an Anglophile, myself, and an American of dual heritage--the product of a Welsh mother and an American father. Most of my family lives in the UK. The rest of us were raised on British history, literature, and culture.
I once ran a Sherlock Holmes club in Philadelphia (Ooo! Ooo! Ooo! Sherlock Holmes would be a fantastic archive, too! Tons and tons of movies and TV series out there!!! He holds the record for being the subject of the most movies!!! Dracula comes second--another idea!) When I was ten years old my mother and I watched Masterpiece Theatre together for many years. So, Anglophilia is a disease I never want to be cured of. PBS, Britbox, and the BBC: I can't live without them.
Thank you again!!!

The Count
