1. Batiment 5 - Ladj Ly | Bozar Brussels
Nov 17, 2023 · A committed young woman who is an involved member of her local community discovers the new redevelopment plan of the neighbourhood where she lives.
Introduction by co-scenarist Giordano Gederlini A committed young woman who is an involved member of her local community discovers the new redevelopment plan of the neighbourhood where she lives. According to that plan, the building where Haby grew up is set to be demolished. Haby and her family take on the city government and their megalomaniacal ambitions to prevent the demolition of ‘Building 5’. Ladj Ly began his career with the collective Kourtrajmé, founded in 1995 by his childhood friends Kim Chapiron and Romain Gavras. He kicked off his film career with his first short film Montfermeil Les Bosquets in 1997. He then directed Les Misérables in 2017, soon going on to develop it into a feature-length film, which was selected in the competition at the 2019 Cannes Film Festival. There, the film immediately won the jury prize. You can catch the avant-premiere of Bâtiment 5, his most recent feature film, at Bozar in the presence of one of the crew members. The film will be in theatres starting on 6 December.
