Iconic House on Wheels Reflects the True Essence of Tiny Living (2024)

Some tiny houses are so ingenious and innovative that they become icons of an entire generation. Among countless cool, dazzling, or simply quirky designs, the Fox Sparrow brings to light the true spirit of tiny living, and that's what makes it a timeless source of inspiration for sustainable living in harmony with nature.

The Fox Sparrow isn't a young model, nor does it sport flashy additions or out-of-the-box design tricks. Yet, more than five years ago, when it emerged in the world of tiny living, this house on wheels was innovative. It combined a rustic structure and a classic layout with an intense focus on the indoor/outdoor flow. Since then, many other homes on wheels strived to recreate this strong connection with nature through modern layouts and other specific elements. After all, freely connecting with the outdoors is what tiny living is all about.

Size-wise, the Fox Sparrow is neither too big nor too small. The 24-foot (7.3 meters) length is a common choice for a generous open-plan main floor and a two-loft layout. Like most Rewild Homes designs, it comes with a flawless, well-packed kitchen, but that's not even the best part.

While regular tiny homes don't even include a dedicated dining area because of space limitations, the Fox Sparrow reveals a gorgeous breakfast bar complemented by double-opening casem*nt windows. It might look simple, but this breakfast setup alone transforms the entire house as if by magic.

These types of windows seem to transform the outside into an extension of the home's living space. The line between the indoor and the outdoor is effectively blurred, making any size restrictions irrelevant. Tiny living is about freedom in every way, including mobility and affordability, but it's also about rediscovering our link to nature.

Living in a tiny house is not just about practical downsizing. It allows us to fully enjoy the outdoors as a way of life without even leaving the comfort of our own homes. To live in a tiny house is to have the outdoors at your fingertips, and that's what the Fox Sparrow aims to bring.

We're not talking about a modest, slim wooden slab masquerading as a breakfast bar in order to save space. This is a gorgeous, full-size breakfast bar. What makes it extra special is that it's made of live edge wood. Regular chairs instead of bar stools also ramp up comfort. In combination with the double-opening windows, it turns into the perfect setup for lazy brunches and even BBQs (an external accessory, propane BBQ, was included) - and all of this without sacrificing any of the countertop space.

The kitchen comes with full-size appliances, including a four-burner propane cooktop and a stainless steel fridge that's neatly tucked in a dedicated compartment under the staircase. This isn't a staircase with hidden storage; it would more aptly be described as a multi-drawer closet with tops doubling as stairs, and that's because of the unusually generous size. The staircase leads to the main loft bedroom.

Comfort reigns supreme inside this bedroom. It's a large loft with walk-around space, a double bed, and multiple windows, including a skylight, for maximum luminosity. There's no protection wall, which enhances the sense of openness and the overall brightness. After all, the Fox Sparrow was designed to maximize openness in every way, inside and out.

The second loft was not primarily intended as a bedroom, which is why it's not accessed the same way as the other one. The absence of a second staircase in this part of the house enabled the addition of a beautiful lounge corner right under the loft. It's an adorable, cozy nook with a custom sofa with added storage and a beautifully crafted coffee table.

Similar to the kitchen, this part of the house is also surrounded by windows, plus glass doors, for a perfect combination of luminosity and panoramic views. An oversized skylight adds natural light from the top and works perfectly together with discrete recessed lighting throughout.

At the end of the house, past the kitchen, the bathroom reveals itself as a spa-like cocoon, equipped with a glass-surround shower, an eco-friendly composting toilet, and a large vanity. There's also additional space for a washer/dryer combo and a custom-made closet. The sliding door is another way of supporting a seamless flow throughout the house, creating the illusion of wide, interrupted spaces.

On the outside, the Fox Sparrow features beautiful western cedar, locally sourced on Vancouver Island, which is another feature that defines sustainable, tiny living. The standard equipment includes a propane on-demand water heater and a propane space heater, which ensure year-round comfort.

The Fox Sparrow proves that even the smallest, most unconventional dwellings can encourage people to spend more time with their loved ones as well as enjoy the outdoors. Rustic and contemporary at the same time, this beautifully designed tiny brings out the best in mobile living.
